"Your show was a real highlight of my time at the Fringe Festival. The depth of your work and its creative and timeless message of putting rejection where it belongs, out of the ego,so the soul can fly was remarkable." - Hilda

The experience of staying on Granville Island for two weeks was amazing. The island hotel with its opening windows was right next to the water and parked yachts (night photo above). A healthy 10-12 minute walk each afternoon would bring me to the Market, over-flowing with fresh roasted & smoked meats, baked breads, picked berries, fruits, exquisite yogurts, candied fish, salads and nearly everything else one could crave for. For my water, I chose a bakery (next door), frequented by Sarah McLachlan. The water is distilled and tastes superb. I learned about ice wines (originally from Germany), about the biogenic gemstone Ammolite (actually comes from fossilized ammonites), the woolly mammoth (a carved piece of which, in the form on an Eagle I got after completing the run of my show) and most important – human interaction. I found the people to be pure, themselves and strong in spirit. (Below: caviar, water, blueberry muffin cake and the milk-man with my show ad behind).

To start the adventure, a brilliant artist carved the logo of my Darksoul Theatre onto a Capricorn stone-stamp. This really was the bang of the Beginning …

On Friday, September 7, as part of the Vancouver International Fringe Festival, the premiere of the new show by Mikhail Tank «The Power of Rejection». Musical performances, in which Mikhail - an actor, director, author of (most of the) music and lyrics, was received very well by the public. And the city treated its guests to a warm-Sept. calm. «Oтвержение», which in Russian means "rejection", is one of the greatest human fears. To a greater or lesser degree, everyone is afraid of failure of rejection and being misunderstood by others. According to Mikhail, all of us have the experience of rejection in some form, but it is how we react and draw from the negative and into our advantage, that makes us the creators of our own destinies.
«The Power of Rejection» - a half-hour show, which combined several life sketches, ponders the main question: what is a "rejection" and how does it dissolve us? And Mikhail does not leave the question open, he shows viewers his creative and impressive response.
Misha's representation does not quite fit into the typical Fringe format (if, of course, this kind of event can have a 'format'). Most often, the festival brings comedy shows and skits - that which most attracts the viewer. However, this artist is not trying to please everyone - just wanting to share his artistic discoveries.
- Inspiring a life, - says Mikhail - It raises important questions in front of me, in search of answers to which are born ideas for my shows and plays. If people find in my work something useful, I'm glad.
On the creative plans, Mikhail says with enthusiasm: Ahead of him is work on a film about the early years of Grigory Rasputin - in which, by the way, our hero looks like. Perhaps this film we can see in the near future via another event - the Vancouver International Film Festival. In the meantime, our readers still have the opportunity to see «The Power of Rejection» - Thursday, September 13, 20.30 and on Saturday, 15 September, 20.20.
Recall the Vancouver International Fringe Festival - an annual event organized by the First Vancouver Theatrespace Society. One of the largest theater festivals in British Columbia - it shows the theatrical life in an informal, accessible and inexpensive form. Fringe blurs the usual lines between audience and performers, encouraging open dialogue between the audience, and creators.

Dani's Review:
Using a series of vignettes Mikhail Tank explores the power of rejection to wound and the power of the human soul to cope with that rejection through fantasy, withdrawal and, finally, by choosing personal joy! Mikhail has a lovely voice and he uses it as an instrument. He explores the dark and light of the power of rejection using story, song and poetry. Mikhail's performance is by turns funny, eerie and touching. Through it all, his soul shines through, and it is not dark!
